The Medical Center, proposed by GCF, for the greater Les Cayes area in Southern Haiti will sit on 10 acres of land. The Center -yet to be named- will serve as a referral and teaching facility for the region. The main campus, comprising of 5 distinct pavilions, will occupy 54,914 square feet and will be built according to international parasysmic rules and hurricane building standards. Solar panels on the roof of the pavilions will provide renewable electricity for standard lighting needs in the Center.
The Board of Directors of GCF is determined to build a modern medical center that will answer to all international norms and standards.
The Medical Center will initially have 44 private single-patient rooms, with considerations for expansion and modification during the initial and future phases. The decision for single-patient rooms was made because such a facility does not exist in Southern Haiti, as most Hospitals and Clinics continue to use the antiquated method of housing patients in "halls" with dozens of beds next to each other. This decision will allow for standardized infection control, with oxygen and medical gases readily available in each room.
The clinical facilities will include emergency services, intensive care unit, as well as an Operating Suite with 2 complete operating rooms. Computerized Axial Tomography Scan (CAT Scan), Digital X-Ray, Ultrasound are some of the diagnostic tools that will be available in Radiology services. In partnership and cooperation with Hospitals and Specialists in the United States, the Center will be equipped with the latest telecommunication services and products to facilitate all aspects of telemedicine.
It is GCF's intention to partner with Ministry of Health Officials in Haiti, the local medical community in the Les Cayes area, international non-profit and non-governmental organizations, private corporations and all willing contributors to build a medical facility that will provide the absolute best of medical care to the men, women and children of Southern Haiti.
